Madrid festivals and events

The Virgin of La Paloma Fiesta follows right after the San Cayetano and San Lorenzo ferias, in August and the whole centre of Madrid is turned into a colourful, lively and vibrant street party with music and dancing until the early hours. On the 15th August, a statue of the Virgin is paraded through the streets.The Three Kings Festival on the 5th January, where a livelly procession winds its way around the streets bringing gifts and sweets to the children is also worth seeing, as are the special Christmas events, including an annual market and fair.

During July and August, temperaures often rise above 35ºC, and almost a third of the residents take holidays in the coastal areas of Spain where it is slightly cooler.
